Where at all "logarithm" used?

Just like that, a thought crossed my mind. Where at all "logarithm" used? (Do you remember the log book we use in Physics lab during school days?)

Went to wikipedia to see where it is used. I was redirected to "exponential" to understand logarithm. It was interesting to read. But atlast didn't understand anything.

Then I came back to Logarithm(without understanding what it means) to find the usage of it. Wikipedia says,

"Logarithmic scales reduce wide-ranging quantities to smaller scopes. For example, the decibel is a logarithmic unit quantifying sound pressure and voltage ratios. In chemistry, pH is a logarithmic measure for the acidity of an aqueous solution. Logarithms are commonplace in scientific formulas, and in measurements of the complexity of algorithms and of geometric objects called fractals. They describe musical intervals, appear in formulas counting prime numbers, inform some models in psychophysics, and can aid in forensic accounting"

Mileage calculator - My first Android app

Mileage calculator - My first ever Android app. For the first time in my life, I started something and completed it in a single stretch;-)

I was thinking of developing an Android app for my personal use. Mileage calculator - crossed my mind. I use to mark in Zoho Sheet, the kilometer reading and the quantity of fuel added to my bike whenever it falls to "reserve". I use to calculate mileage  with that. I decided to develop an app for that. This is the outcome.

You can download the app and install it in your Android mobile.

Neither did I signed it, nor did I published it in Android market. So, in the 'Application Settings', you have to check, 'Allow install of non-Market applications'.

Give it a try and let me know your feedback.

Shaft of joy

The joy that you experienced ten years ago, the joy that you experienced nine years ago, the joy that you experienced three years ago, and the joy that you experienced one year ago are all independent, individual, unconnected thoughts or incidents. But now, you connect all of those thoughts and create a big shaft of joy.

You may identify your joy with an object, a person, or a space like a particular vacation resort. Now you will try again and again to bring that back in your life, to bring that person, that object, that space, or that same incident back in your life. But try as you might, you will not be able experience the same joy again. This puts you in further pain!

This post is about my 'First Team trip'. I penned down this a long long ago(in 2007), but never completed it. Saw this when I went through some of my old files. Just thought of sharing this in the half written state. I couldn't collect back all the memories to finish this post now ;-)

We went for a Team Trip to Wayand for 4 days. We started from Chennai on 4th October, 2007 ( Thursday ) and came back to Chennai on 9th October, 2007 ( Tuesday ). This trip is the most enjoyed trip in my life, so far.

We were on a tour mood on thursday and were discussing various things. We went to the Central Railway Station from our office in a 'Mahindra' Van. We were atleast half-an-hour early to the station. Kospet, the senior most person( in his slow activities) in our team, bought some playing materials (may be for his grand children) in the train. We chatted for some time. Every one said about their 'sights' of School/College days. Kospet and Mukamil, the youngest boy of our team, had a very big list. I kept my mouth shut as I had nothing to say.

As we approached Kozhicode, the climate was cool. We saw water everywhere. We took some snaps. Train was late and we reached the Kozhicode station half-an-hour after the scheduled arrival time. Shinoge, a driver in S.N. Presidency Travels, was waiting for us with a board, saying 'MANIKANDAN', in his hand. We had our breakfast in Kozhicode. From there we went to Thusharagiri falls which was on the way to Wayanad. I wanted to be the first one in my team to enter the falls. The rocks were slippery. My enthusiasm took over me. I was careless and I slipped through the slippery rocks and became the first one(the only one) to slip down in my team. There was no one to disturb us. We enjoyed this spot a lot. We were there for about 2-3 hours. As we were all tired we directly went to our place of stay without going anywhere else.

We stayed in P.P.S Tourist home. It was clean and neat. Five of us went for a walk as we have got a lot of time that evening. There were tea plants every where. The climate was good. We went for a short walk after the dinner we had in the Restaurant attached to our place of stay.

The second day ( Saturday ), we were ready to go out by 9:30 AM. We finished our breakfast and headed towards Chembra Peak for a trekking. The hill was almost covered with tea plants. A team of about 5-6 members were before us who have started their trekking. They were checking their shoes for leeches. Each one of them had 1-2 leeches inside their shoes. Kospet started checking his shoes. That made all of us laugh as we are yet to start our trekking. We started our trekking. Vidya was the first one in our team to have a leech in her leg. The leech haven't started sucking her blood and hence it was very easy to remove the leech. As she saw the leech her energy level has reduced drastically. She wasn't able/not ready to continue the trekking. Madhan (our கணக்கு பிள்ளை), Mani, Kospet and Vidya decided to take rest and go back. Remaining seven of us continued our trekking. As we go higher and higher the path was very steep. Dr. Allu ( Ph.D. in photo posing, then called Mukamil ) and Master ( at times called Chandru ) felt tired and they too decided to go back. Balaji, SRK, Yejaman( then called as Shankar), Meena ( my sister ) and myself continued our trekking. We felt very thirsty and we had no water to drink until we saw a narrow water stream. The water we drank there gave us enough energy to reach the top of the hill. SRK had a couple of bananas which he exchanged with a guy from another group for a chips packet. We recorded some videos there and returned back. This trekking will stay in our minds forever.
Another spot that we visited the same day was Edakkal Caves. 'Herbal Masala Soda' that we drank there was quiet good. As we were late we missed a trekking there. Yejaman's demonstration of eating a hibiscus, Master's photo/video poses and train that we drove made our return journey full of fun.

The third day we visited three spots viz., Natural Dam, Pookat Lake and Sochipara Water falls. As only one of the speed boats is not functional that day we missed boating there. We took some good snaps there. Allu directed for some photo snaps with our model SRK. We enjoyed the  pedal boating in Pookat Lake a lot.

The two support calls

Customer support person in my team didn't came to office today. Hence, all the support calls were directed to my desk. I answered two supports calls. First one came from an Indian who got settled in US. The call went for about 15 mins. The very first question from the customer made me feel happy. He asked me to spell my name and told that, he would always get the correct name of any new person he talks to. After the Techincal part is over, he even asked about my schoolings and college. The call went on well and at the end, both of us were happy.

After some time, I received the second call from another customer. The mood of the customer is exactly opposite, when compared to the first one. The customer complained about something for which he is responsible. Neither he was ready to listen to me, nor he was allowing me to talk. The call went for about 25 mins and at the end, both of us were not happy.
